Readyman Badge. (Page 365)
I contacted the Red Cross
(631) 924-6700
They hooked me up with one of the Red Cross volunteers in my area. I emailed the volunteer and gave him the outline of the requirementsfor Readyman badge, and he met all of them. It took him about 1 to 2 hours to complete the program at the school. He wanted to conduct two (2) hour programs, but I reminded him that
the boys are nine, and 2 hours was plenty. We made a date for him to come to the school one night.  This Volunteer liked afternoons, so we did it on Monday at 4:00 PM.  I invited other webelos to come.  He brought safety dummy mannequins,
and there was lots of hands on for the boys, information packs for the kids to take home. This program was free of charge.  At the end of the program, we presented a Thank You card to the volunteer, which all the boys signed.

Aquanaut Badge (pages 83)
We went to Deer Park High School
1 Falcon Place
Deer Park, NY 11729

Pool office # (631) 274 4186
I e-mailed Jeanne-Marie Kavananagh, the Aquatic Director.  I said that we were webelos and she knew exactly what to do for the Aquanaut Badge. She prefers that you email her and set up the date on- line.
Her email is:
kavanagh.jm@deerparkschools.org <kavanagh.jm@deerparkschools.org>
It costs $8 per boy.
Siblings were welcome as long as they can keep up and do everything in the program.
It’s done during open- play on Friday, 7:30pm to 9:30pm or Saturday 12pm to 2pm.
This program is offered all year long but I felt it was a good winter thing to do, And be less crowded before spring sports begins. Just email information about how many boys and the dates you want. She mails all the information and rules to the Den Leader. On the day of the event, I brought an outline of the requirements with me so they wouldn’t miss anything.  Within 2 hrs, it was all done, and the boys earned their Swimming Belt loop. If they finished before the two hours
were up they could stay in the water for personal playtime.

The times are on Saturday from 10AM to 12 Noon, or 2pm to 4pm
I’m not sure if other times are available Again, I called up and they knew exactly what to do for the Geologist Badge.
I booked a date and it cost $8 per boy. No Charge for adults. They email all the information and rules to the Den leader’s home. They do not like to take more than 8 boys at a time and two adults. We had 10 and it was ok. The boys were asked to bring 5 rocks, (which is the first requirement). Just make sure they are clean.  They just got a new rug.

They did all the requirements in two hours and there are many things to see. They have butterflies, glow-in-the-dark rocks, a jail cell (it was an old courthouse), fossils, and lots and lots of rocks. There is also a gift shop.

If there is no program after you, the boys can stay and look around more. There are many hands-on things to do, and lots of information that is provided.
